POMONA - Amber Fause led the Golden Eagles with 12 points in Cal State L.A.'s loss to cross-town rival Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday night in Kellogg Gym on the CPP campus. After the 65-53 loss, the Golden Eagles stand at 3-13 overall, 1-10 in the CCAA.
The Golden Eagles started off hot, opening the contest with an 11-point run. Over the next few minutes, the Broncos would climb back into the game, taking 14 of the next 16 points. Rachel Ottovich assited on a Fause layup that briefly but Cal State L.A. back in the driver's seat. Ottovich would extend the Golden Eagle lead to three with a jumper just seconds later. Cal Poly Pomona's Cassey Brick hit a three-pointer to tie the game up at 17-17. With just under seven minutes to play in the half, the Broncos hit a free throw that put them in the lead for good. At the halftime buzzer, the Golden Eagles walked off the court down by 10, 29-19.
In the second half, Cal State L.A. was unable to recover from their 10-point deficit. Fause was held to just five points for the half but Brenae Perkins scored all eight of her points in the half, the second highest total for the Golden Eagles in the game. The game's scoring would end with just under 90 seconds to play as Jaquaya Chatman hit a free throw, her sixth point of the game. Down by 12 with so little time left, the Golden Eagles were unable to come back and ended up dropping the contest, 65-53.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Friday, February 2, in the Eagles Nest as they get set to take on Northern California rival San Francisco State at 5:30 p.m.
